    Been looking at Civics.

Do they not come with side air bags?

If no.....arent side air bags a pretty desirable feature as pertains
    to safety?

They could be if your car was hit at a certain direction and at a
relatively low speed. At high speed, nothing could save you when half of
    the car is compressed.

  4. If you get T-boned, they are important.

  5. The type of accidents where side airbags help, side impacts, do not occur
that often on the highway. That type of accident usually occurs on road
with lots of intersections. I would wait a couple of years when these
become standard on all Hondas. In the mean time, I would send my nephew
to a decent driving school. What they learn there they can take with them
    to any car they drive.

  6. For getting T-boned. You can check the with and without side airbag
crash tests at http://www.nhtsa.gov . Also, http://www.iihs.org has
some side crash tests also. The NHTSA tests simulate being T-boned
by a car, while the IIHS tests simulate being T-boned by a pickup or
SUV (where head protection side airbags are most helpful).

  7. Only if you find surviving a side-impact crash desirable.
