Should I start my 2003 Honda Civic LX with or without tapping the gas
/ accelerator? I think it should be without, but does that do any
    damage?

  2. Do not tap on the gas, I repeat, do not tap on the gas.

  3. What does your owner's manual say? I know it addresses this; therefore,
since you're coming here, you've not bothered to read your owner's
    manual.

No, you've come here to get free advice. Sorry, charlie. Read your
    owner's manual.

Except maybe free up a stuck throttle plate if you've neglected to clean in
    there... ;-)

Yup - Hopped into my mom's new 1980 BMW 320i, a couple of quick taps on the
accelerator and 'POP', blew off the rubber boot.

Had to pay for the tow back to the dealer and 3 minutes later, problem
    solved... lesson learned...

Ah.. Learning things that hard way - LOL

Actually on a modern electronic fuel injected car it is not even a "gas"
pedal...it is really an "air" pedal...it simply lets more air into the
engine when it is pressed...this additional air causes the engine computer
to in turn inject more fuel.

I don't think that more air causes engine computer to inject more fuel, but
I think fuel injection is mainly regulated according to throttle position
