I have a problem with intermittent static across the entire AM radio band.
It comes and goes. It does not change with engine speed. With the engine off
and the key in the accessory position there is no static. I click the key to
the next position but don't engage the starter and I have silence for two
seconds and then the static starts. I figure some motor is coming on two
seconds after the switch goes to the second position. Any ideas what this
is and more important, how to quiet it?

  2. I discovered in my 92 Civic, which had the same problem, that finding a
chassis screw on the radio and running a wire from that screw to vehicle
    ground solved the problem.

You may also want to replace the main ground wires that attach to your
battery. They do wear out with age.
