    Hi, folks

I have a 92 Honda Accord LX with 181,000 miles. Would you put a new
stereo in such a vehicle? I am not looking to pimp-my-ride, But I would
hate to spend money for a new sound system and the engine stops working
the next week. It appears from reading past posts, if I take care of
this car it should last another 180K miles. The vehicle runs
beautifully as a commuter car, and I am the second owner.

Stereo has nothing to do with how long your car lasts. If it doesn't last
long, just take out your stereo system and put it in your new car.

I would put a stereo system in any car I use as a daily driver, be it a
beater or a modified race car. If I use it on regular basis, I'll put stereo
    in there.

I'd go for it. The cost of a new stereo is modest, and the risk of the
car croaking on you is low. Besides, as John pointed out, you can always
take the stereo out and put it in a different car later.

Be sure to use a wiring harness adapter on the new stereo, whatever type
it may be, so you will be able to remove it painlessly, later.

  5. I was in a similar situation almost 2 years ago (91 LX, 170k), I put a new
stereo, it got stolen, I put an even better one after that and since then
    i'm very happy! 205.000 miles.
