    Hello,

I'm trying to find people interested in buying Sterling cars. All cars
are located in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Most of them need work, so this
email is targeted mostly towards people who work on their own cars, and
like Sterlings in particular. There are 4 cars available:

    1988 Sterling SAX 4DSL SAXXS838XJM158433 TN 43879481 - blue sedan
drives, needs body work (extra door that needs to be fixed is included,
    above 100k miles)

    1987 Sterling 825 4DSD SAXXS44BOHM111798 TN 63844721 - red sedan
needs transmission work, body and interior is very nice (close to 200k
    miles)

    1990 Sterling SLI 4H SAXXS56H2LM252341 TN 67504817 - sports version
hatch Vitesse (red, drives well, around 100k miles)

    1991 Sterling 827S 4D SAXXS43K8MM278258 TN 71610027 - silver sedan
body and interior in very nice shape, needs AC work, less than 100k
    miles

If you live in Tennessee, or can get there and look at the cars, let me
know if you'd like to see them. Many parts are available if you decide
to buy one of those cars.
If you have any questions, send me an email.
    Regards,

    Martin

There are actually people out there that like Sterlings?
Those cars are a major pain to work on. Parts availability absolutely
    sucks beyond all belief.

A friend of mine has one with a blown head gasget and can't get anyone
to work on it. Too many unknowns. If anyone wants it, let me know (it
    is in Bridgeport, CT).

  3. The sterling specific parts are hard to get, but they shared many parts
with the Acura Legend, so those parts should not be hard to get.
He isn't doing his homework. Sterlings have Honda/Acura drivetrains, so any
competent Honda/Acura mechanic should be able to work on his car.

That could be. Maybe it is a great car for someone that has experience
with them, but not a good car for the general public.

He's not competent to work on cars so takes it to the mechanic - he is
one of those guys that goes there when the car is practically falling
    apart.
His last mechanic refused to work on it - he said that the parts were
just too difficult to cross. I recommended a mechanic that works on
everything and is very competent - he also wasn't interested.
I am reluctant to look over his shoulder too much, for fear that he
asks me to do his engine work -- don't' need yet another job.

A while back he needed a new radiator overflow tank and could not find
one. Honda dealers did not sell it and junk yards did not have it. It
could be that the tank crosses to a Honda number, but the local dealers
are certainly not aware of that.

Last time he drove it, he was refused service at Jiffy Lube to get his
oil changed - they said they didn't have the filter. Personally, I
found that last one almost hard to believe. Of course, those guys are
not mechanics but does go to show you that they are much harder to
maintain than regular cars (like Honda, etc).

I would not get one for that reason. I like to walk into a part store
and know that they'll have it.
He's at this point looking to practically give the car away, I think. A
shame, because it does look like a nice car.

try electrical work on one sometime. all the wires are gray, with
little numbers on them. not a fun time. I would send them all to the
    smasher myself

Now that you mention it, I did notice that the wiring was all one color
    (black, I think).
Just figured figured they were just very neat about it and brought the
jacket insulation right up to the connectors.
Wow - that's even worse than I thought..

This is true. But they most likely won't; I sure wouldn't work on a
    Sterling.

I wouldn't take the whole lot of them, even if you gave them to me and delivered them to my
    door...

    Good luck.
