    Hey Group,

Thanks for the inputs up to this point....here's a few points I
wanted to add to the soup...

    1) I've figured out that my clutch wasn't disengaging the gear it was
in, so when I started my car the car would start moving slowly forward
even with the clutch all the way in....

    2) The clutch cable was found at the release arm to be so highly
tensed that part of the rubber grommet on the cable had actually been
"squeezed" off with indentations from extreme pressure to the
cable....apparently it had been tightened so highly that it was
    cutting into the rubber part.

    3) I disengaged the clutch cable and moved the clutch lever up by hand
(about 2 inches) and it feels really light with not much resistance,
so I am concluding that the clutch cable was still moving the arm, but
the arm is not doing jack internally with the clutch components...

    4) I received a message telling me that someone thinks that the fluid
level inside the clutch needs to be filled up and "bled" of air to
make the hydraulic actuation of the clutch perform its duties. Is
    this a possible failure?

I am at the moment stumped, but then again I am not a clutch doctor
personally. I am learning as I go, which can be painful but also
    rewarding!

    Thanks for your opinions!

  2. If you have a clutch cable, there is no hydraulic system.

I don't think you should be able to pull the clutch lever by hand
beyond what free play it has. If you can really pull it, then it
isn't doing anything and the problem is internal.

I worked on the clutch (cable operated, not hydraulic) of an old VW GTi
a few years back. On that car there was about 1" - 1 1/2" play on the
clutch lever. I had to apply substantial force (meaning tugging with all
your might) to actually operate the clutch.
