I recently had my 2nd timing belt and water pump service (300k) at a
non-Honda garage. Big mistake, as I now get a strong vibration from
the engine compartment. I am returning the car to the repair shop, any
ideas what may have caused this (yes I will never use them again)?

What is a "strong" vibration? There are two pulleys on top, they are
of different size but hard to tell from eyeballing them. Once my mechanics
didn't mark which is which, and surely swapped them in the process.
The engine vibrated violently. If you or the mechanics didn't see or feel
this vibration before putting everything back together (which was hard to
miss), then it is something else.

You did not give us the year and model so a diagnoses is difficult.

You don't say what engine. Some of the Honda 4 cylinder engines have a
second belt that spins a balancing shaft. If they took it off, it could
have been replaced out of alignment.

If you don't have a balancer belt, most likely they didn't install the new
belt properly and the valve timing is off by a tooth.

In either event, take it back and tell them to do it right.

A tooth off on the timing belt did not create a vibration problem on a 92
Civic cx. It only weaken the engine and caused poor mileage.

Could be balancer or bad plug/wire.

The most most common cause would be the balancers are now out of time with
each other and/or with the timing belt.
