Tires for accord

Discussion in 'Accord' started by Alan Campbell, Oct 2, 2003.

  1. Hi,

    I have 3 choices on my 96 V6 accord (P205/60R15)

Goodyear American Eagle $77.96 with 60Kmiles warranty
BF goodrich Excentia $62.96 with 50Kmiles warranty
    Douglas Performance gt-h $57.96 with 40Kmiles warranty

    1. We have a little snow here in Indiana, and I am basically looking
to long treadlife more than anything else. Which one do you think I
    should go for?

    2. Does someone know of a Michelin equivalent
    3. Is the warranty an indicator of life?

Thanks in advance for your help ,

    Alan

Personally, I'd go for Dunlop SP A2 ($59 from TireRack), 50K mile warranty,
as it will give you better handling and better wet traction compared to most
other tires in this price range. But if extremely long treadlife is all
you're after, then I'd consider Firestone Affinity Touring or Michelin
Harmony or X-One - all with 80K mile warranty. Basically, look for tires
with a very high treadwear index.

Sure, just keep in mind they'll cost you a lot more, and yet you don't
really get more in terms of performance or trealife: Michelin Energy MXV4
Plus (terrible, IMO), Michelin Harmony, Michelin X-One, Michelin Pilot
    XGT-H4.

Kind of, although you really need to read the fine print of each warranty to
see what sort of exclusions have been stated to get the manufacturer easily
    out of their responsibility.

As an indicator of treadlife, I'd look at treadwear index, keeping in mind
that such values are mainly good for comparing tires within the lineup of
one manufacturer and not as much for comparing tires from different
    manufacturers.

    Cheers,

    Pete

Get the Dunlops, tirerack.com will drop ship to a local shop. All you
have to do is drop off the car.
