transmission failure

    I have a 1991 honda accord.It sprank a leak in the transmission
    coolant line. It shudders and shuts off in reverse,and  shuts off and
    on in fwd movement. Is this due to the torque converter being trashed
    or from a sensor failurefor the TCU?
