I'd take exception for the AMX 2-seaters, 1968-1970

The Jeeps weren't too bad looking, either.

Late 1970s Datsun F-10. Car and Driver said that it proved even the Japanese
    can make mistakes!

I would to add that Datsun began the decade of the 1970s with, IMO, two of the
best looking cars ever the 240Z and the classic 510, as well as, simple but
not-too-bad looking 1200 series cars, the "L'il Something" and the sportier
"Something Special" and then went straight downhill with the B210, the 510
morphed into the bulkier 610 and 710 and then finally their first front driver
    the F-10.

I had one of those...a 1981 510. The thing was as big as a Civic, but
as light as a Metro, so when I had it in Orlando during Hurrican Opel,
I was blown all over the road. I thought it was a pretty decent
automobile, but it was so loud that when my radiator blew itself all
over the road, I couldn't hear it and blew up my engine. Oh well.... I
then went for a 1979 Celica Liftback, which was also a pretty decent
looking car, but it had transmission shift point issues.

I was refering to thr original 510 was a classic" it ran from circa 1968-1972.
After about an eight year break a 'new' 510 appeared which was not as good as
the original and , if my memory serves me well, did not have the four-wheel
    independent suspension.

Back in the 1990s, Road and Track listed the most significant cars of the past
50 years ago. The list included the original Accoed, as well as, the 510 and
    the Rabbit.

I remember going to a Datsun/Renault/Peugeot/Triumph/MG dealer with my father
around 1970. The salesman said the the Datsun 1200 which was similar in design
to my father's 1966 Opel Kadett "hi-cam' design. It represented the small car
state-of-the-art of the mid-60s. The 510 with its OHC design and IRS was
state-of-the-art circa 1970 and, amazingly, the Renault R12 with a tranverse
engine and front-wheel-drive represented the future. How true! This was several
years before the Civic or Rabbit. Too bad the R12 had horrible quality.
