Update: Glueing door fabric, 90 Accord

Discussion in 'Accord' started by Frank Boettcher, Aug 9, 2005.

  1. Well, I took the drivers side door panel off to fix the lock
controller and took another stab at glueing back the fabric while I
    had it dissassembled.

Cleaned the entire area with adhesive remover, then acetone. When
dry, sanded with an RA sander with contour pad and 100 grit paper.
Applied 3M high-tack 76, two coats to both surfaces (recommended for
strongest bond). Put the fabric back on. reassembled the armrest and
installed the panel in the door.

I'm already starting to notice some separation after just a day.

so far I've tried 3M 90, 3M 77, Contact Cement, and now, 3M high tack
76 (reccommended for hard to bond surfaces) with no success. I would
just take the fabric panels off, however, I have a lot in this car
both mechanically and appearance. I painted it last year, it has no
other internal flaws, good glass, etc. If I leave the fabric panels
off, I can't get the surface clean enough to look reasonably good.

Just can't seem to find something that will work.
