My wife went through training and started working at the new car
dealership in CA last week. Guess what.. she was lied to in her
interview(s)! She was told different hours then what it turned out to
be. She was working severl 12 hour days in the week and the last week
in the month EVERY DAY IS A 12 HOUR DAYS. 70-75 hour workweeks are the
    NORM. WTF.

We won't even discuss the two-faced salespeople... They smile in the
customers face, but dispise the customer if they are smart and only
want to pay 2-3% over invoice.. Since she is a teacher, she quit the
deallership last week and is going back to the blackboard jungle. She
sold 10 1/2 cars in three weeks of working and when she told her
manager(s) that she was leaving.. they nearly had a fit... and tried
to pressure her to stay. She said she would stay if she had a regular
9 hour day, and she did not mind working the 12pm-9pm shift (b/c other
sales people HATE to work late) and they said no problem, but, she
KNEW they were lying and she had to call ME to walk her to her car on
the last day of work to keep the vultures off of her.

You guys warned us, but she said they wee soo convincing in the
    interview... Whew.

I thought 70-80 hours weeks were normal in any job you want to succeed in.

Really interesting. Thanks for posting this.

Would you please clarify: How did the 10.5 cars in three weeks compare to
what the other salespeople sold in the same time period?

  4. Very interesting. In your previous thread you mentioned that this was a
"well established/respected car dealership". Kinda makes you wonder what
the bad ones are like to work for... also, how bad can it get?:)

Maybe your wife could write an article on her experience, like the guy did
for the Edmunds site - a female perspective on the same experience... a
    little bonus for her trouble.

George, she is thinking about writing a book/novel about her
experiences. Do ou think their would be a market for tht kind of
    thing?

  6. That long?:) I think it'd make fascinating reading - I, and others I
passed it on to, found the Edmunds article *very* interesting, in a
    mind-boggling kinda way.

  7. It is very unfortunate that the dealer treats his employees like his
customers. If I have a choice I will buy from a female salesperson rather
than a male. It is rare to find an honest car salesperson anymore. I think
in all my years of dealing with dealers and sales people I have only met two
and one was female. I hope your wife enjoys teaching, it certainly doesn't
    pay near what it should.
