Just dropped the car off at Honda this morning for timing belt, water
    pump and valve service.

The car has 371,000km on it. They found that both the upper control
arms are gone (original) and a lower ball joint as well. They want
$400 CAN for the control arms installed (both) and $159 for the ball
    joint installed.

Part cost is $215 for both the control arms and $38 for the ball
    joint.

I've done the brakes, shocked, rad, alternator and other tune-up stuff
    myself.

How difficult are the control arms and a ball joint to DIY?

    Thanks,

    Scott

My advice? Bite the bullet and get the other lower ball-joint and the
steering outer tie-rod ends done at the same time. With your mileage, it
won't be long before they're gone as well.

AFAIK upper control arm is simply a bolt-on replacement. The only PITA could
be a ball joint removal/replacement. I would handle it myself, I guess. Need
proper tools, though. Like a nice ball joint removal tool will get you there
    a little bit faster.

Yeah, and it would be a great idea to change bushings and check other stuff
while you are there (of course, it depends on whether you wanna keep this
vehicle or not, 'cause it all big $$$).
