Water Pump?

Discussion in 'General Motoring' started by Rattus the RAT, Dec 13, 2004.

  1. How long is it supposed to last? I changed my timing belt in Jan 2004 and
they changed it but while doing a test after changing my radiator this week
they told me my water pump had a small leak... Sounds like 11 months is
really short. How long are those kind of repair under warranty usually? I
guess 1 year, I should go back to the guy who changed my timing belt and
    water pump...

maybe they charged you for a non replaced pump.
could be a cheap pump or installed inproperly.
leak could be from something else, like the seal from pump to engine
    block, need a closer look.
new pumps should last at least 60K to 100k mi.
Go back to guy who changed it out, might replace under warranty, but count
    on it.

If the tech applied too much pressure during testing, the pump might seep a few
drops during use. Does it still dripping when the engine's running now?
