    hey there,

I have a 97 Civic DX at 141K miles. It just started making this
hissing/screeching noise when I reach a certain speed. It stops when I
slow down. (It is not the a/c as I turn it off and it still occurs)
Does anyone know what that might be so I have a clue when I take it in
to the shop? Also, has anyone reached 200K yet?

    Thanks

  2. I got 175k miles on my 98 civic...

I would check all accessory drive belts. Also the AC Idler pulley (used to
    tension the AC belt).

Just an update, apparantly the problem were my brakes. I had to get
new front brake pads and rear shoes. I got taken to the cleaners. I
wish there were some bonafide mechanic repair shops that don't take a
female or anyone that has no clue about auto repairs for a ride. I
spent over $500. -- 100 for the parts and 400 for the labor!!! My car
probably isn't even worth that much now-- the iorny....
