What is the best Honda auto ever? 86-89 Accords?

  1. If they had another 50 or so HP they would be a much better car. We have
Friend's '88 Accord gets 40mpg (highway) and 30mpg (combined). I believe it has
    98hp.

I believe they sold a 160HP VTEC version in Europe. Oh well, it was
still pretty quick. The classic pocket rocket. When the gen2 came
out with the then still "high end" 16-valve heads and mutli-point FI,
and for only $11k, there was nothing that could touch it for the
    money.

I have an '88 Accord with the 98 HP carb. engine. The fuel injected
    model has 122 HP IIRC.

Your friend's mileage is pretty amazing, considering my top highway MPG
has been around 34-35. But my city/highway IS consistently 30-32.

    I bought my 5-sp '88 Accord LX-I hatchback in '94 with 117K miles. It
has 196K miles now. Only once has it had a 'surprise' problem when the
main relay died. I opened it up and fixed the crystalized solder
joint. Otherwise maintenence has been modest and predictable. This car
gets 25/35 MPG city/highway. I cut plywood boards to protect the back
and with the rear seats down I can carry as much stuff as a small
    pickup.

It's not a powerhouse, but it's the best car I've ever owned.

Maybe the best FWD 4-banger in the world. Which, you could argue,
makes it the best "real" Honda, as they are big believers in both of
    those designs.

    Agreed.

    I bought a 90 Integra with 30K miles.

Gave it away 8 years later with 170K miles. Never gave me a problem.

    Loved that car.
