Just bought my wife a 03 Accord ex V6 with 40k and like new condition.
The dealer changed the oil to Mobil 1 5/30. On reading the owners
naual I find that Honda states to use only 5/20 oil. Being the follow
the book type I called the Honda dealer and was told to use only 5/20
oil regular or Mobil 1 but only 5/20.

I cannot find Mobile 1 5/20 in the area where I live so I called the
dealer back and asked if I could use Fords Motorcraft 5/20 syn/blend
which I buy by the case for my new Ford truck and this would keep me
from having to buy two different oils. The dealer told me that would
be fine. So I changed the oil and filter to the Motorcraft oil and a
    Mobil 1 filter.

Does anyone on this forum see any problems with my choice of oils???

I do not think 5-20 Mobile 1 Syn is not out yet, but was told you can use
0-20 Mobile Syn. I see regular 5-20 all over the places like Wal-Mart. The
    Ford oil should be fine

Thanks for the reply Gary, I found some 5/20 Mobile at a Autozone 90
miles away. I think I will stick with the Motorcraft it has worked
very well in my truck and its half the price. I change my oil often
    anyway.

    dasher,
as far as that engine is concerned, oil is oil... it was designed to use
petroleum based oil. Any oil with a current SAE rating that is energy
    conserving (starburst icon) will work.
If the ford oil meets the above; then it is fine

Mobil 1 5W-30 is a fully synthetic motor oil and would have been
perfectly fine in your engine. Better than any part synthetic 5W-20.
Honda spec. 5W-20 as a means to achieve a few tenths of a mile per
gallon more than 5W-30. Of course, after running the oil for 7500 miles
or so the viscosity of Mobil 1 is likely to be closer to spec than the
part synthetic oil so following the manual any not have been the best
    course of action.

Having dumped the synthetic oil I suppose you will now change the oil
on the severe schedule. FYI; Mobil 1 synthetic would have been fine for
    7500 miles.
You car will run just fine with any SL grade oil up to and including 30
weight. Following the book is OK but you may be taking it just a tad
too seriously when you dump $30 worth of synthetic oil because its
    5W-30 rather than 5W-20.

Where I live summer time temperatures often exceed 90F and I use 5W-30
in my Honda 2004 Accord engine and all my other engines, too. Never had
an oil related engine problem, always get mpg at least equal to EPA
estimates and all my engines run fine for the life of my cars, usually
    over 200,000 miles.
    Ease up, you'll live longer.
Enjoy the car. You'll probably want to get rid of those OEM Michelin
Energy tires if they're still on the car. See www.tirerack.com for some
alternatives that will provide better traction on wet roads.
