What's the maximum safe load capacity of an 1988 CRX DX?

I need to transport myself (150 Lbs) and about 400 Lbs of supplies for
a distance of 975 miles. The passenger seat will be taken out to free
up space and reduce weight. IIRC, I vaguely remember reading in a
manual or a Honda brochure that the capacity is 2 adults plus 200Lbs
of cargo, but now I can't find that info.
    Thanks for any info.

  2. You can find the info inside the door.

Without looking, I know that 550 lbs is OK for any car.

I'm sure you would be fine with that. Just taking out the seat frees some load,
    so figure
    175# passenger
    200# additonal load
    375 rated load

    You would be
    400# load
    -30# seat
    370 actual load.

And the factory rating is neccessarily conservative.
I don't know that I'd take on any windy mountain roads so loaded.

Just to back up at least somewhat what the others said (which all makes sense):

It looks like there are about 1000 lbs. difference between curb weight and the
"maximum loaded weight," so I'd say the capacity is about 2 adults (at 175 lbs.
each) plus maybe 650 lbs., fairly evenly distributed.
