Bah, you're no fun Dano. Crank out some of that cash and go for a new
    one. Just kidding.

Yes I agree buying new is sort of foolish, I had myself convinced that I
would never buy another new vehicle for the same reasons, but after a
bout with the big C I decided that i was going to splurge on a new 04
Sienna after all and that was that. This one may very well be my last,
but I'm going to enjoy it and stop counting the money.

    Good luck

    Dale

you got that right, Dale. A serious illness changes a LOT of priorities
in life, and you start reorganizing priorities in a hurry. Suddenly your
zeal for clipping grocery coupons to save 35c is greatly diminished and what
    you thought was important becomes
a whole lot less important. (and writing a will sometimes becomes top
    priority) .... : - )

Why buy one that new? If you buy one two years old it still
depreciates thousand of dollars every year. If you wait till
they are ten years old you can buy one for s few thousand dollars
and it will only depreciate a few hundred dollars
    every year. ;)

Chrysler... not that far off in price to that of the Oddyessy??? I've had 2
hondas in my life so far... an Accord and a Civic... both went over 260,000
miles... the first one I had bought way back in 1983 (civic 4door) for a
whooping $5800.00 with 13,000 miles on it from some lawyer... had it for 13
years - sold it to some college kid for $800.00!

2nd one was an Accord I bought used with 77,000 miles for $4000.00
dollars... it died years later (engine blew) it had 260,000 miles...

Oh yea... beat this... bought used Toyota Camry with 150,000 miles for
$2800.00>>>> now 6 years later it has 270,000 miles and going strong... just
tuneups here and there Brakes, oil, waterpump, timing belt... that's it...
    That is hard to beat!

    Elmo>>>>
Thanks for the advice on the Odyessy and Toyota.... I'll look for an
Odyessey 02... because of the tranny issue!
Hey thanks for ALL the feedback...

I hope everyone has a Safe and Healthy coming Year!

Your right Dale... do it now... live it up... it's all a matter of
prioritizing! For the past 5 years, my wife and I and our kids have visited
her parents (my in-laws) in Palm Springs in late March/early April... They
live in a gated retired community... there is so many tragic stories of
people who just retire... with loads of money, after working hard for
years... than come down to Palm Springs (PS) and fall ill with something...

You just don't know... My dad recently had a triple bi-pass... he bought a
'bitchin' nice dodge truck - with camper of course - to hall himself, my
mom, the new lab dog, and his boat around... He's been doin that for a good
3 or 4 years now... go dad go... he's a fishing fool... He probably dreams
    about catching fish!!

    Snip:

Brand new 2004 Honda Odyessy LX are selling at $22,500 approx. in Oklahoma
City market. Brand new Honda Odyessy EX are selling at around $24,500 or
so. That is according to ads in the local paper at two large Honda dealers
in the OKC metro area (Bob Howard in OKC and Fowler Honda in Norman).

I bought a 2002 Toyota Sienna XLE back in July this year with 20,000 miles
or so. I paid around $22k for it but it is deckec out with everything
except heated seats. Besides the rear brake squeal, it is a very nice van
so far. Hope to have it for at least 8-10 years.

    My 2 cents worth.

Surly you do not believe that one can actually buy any vehicle at
newspaper ad prices do you? Read the fine print. Particularly
pay attention to the smoke and mirror fees and dealer installed
options that will add thousands to the drive home price once the
F&I guys gets done with your deal. You might want to check the
higher interest rates among brands and dealers that can add more
thousands, as well. All the manufactures are building good
vehicle today, try and price them all. What ever you are looking
to buy first get a total drive home price on each, then decided
which best suits your needs and budget. ;)

Yes, it depends on the market conditions. And no, you don't have to get an
extended warranty, paint conditioner, upholstery conditioner, dealer
financing, yada, yada, yada and all the other crap to add to the price. The
last one I bought I got straight off the truck with no dealer add ons. I
got my own financing up front. I wrote them a draft from my credit union.
Bottom line, it depends on your market and how fast vehicles are selling
there. Believe what you want, I know at the Honda Dealer last time I went,
they had around 28 Odysseys on the ground. The Toyota dealer has quite a
few 04 Siennas now, since it has been around 8 months or so since their
release. Like I said, it depends on each individual market.

A few years back (1992 or 93) my Father was looking for an extended cab
Ranger. He looked around for months. One Saturday Freedom Ford in
Norfolk had exactly what he wanted listed in an ad for a price thousands
less than anything he been able to negotiate. I doubted that it was
legitimate, but we took a chance and drove up to the dealership (65
miles away). Turned out they had the vehicle on the lot for the
advertised price. They tried to charge a documentation fee, but my
Father said forget that, we could handle the NC DMV paperwork. Most
painless deal ever. Lately all the Norfolk dealers have been advertising
really attractive prices on cars. The fine print always is very careful
to include any documentation fees and to mention how many are available
for the stated price. I am very confident that I could buy the
advertised vehicle for the advertised price (fine print included). I
spend most of my time in Raleigh, NC and I am always shocked by how the
higher advertised prices in the Raleigh paper compared to the Norfolk,
    Va papers.

A guy I was talking to that used to live in Florida told me Nissans
(the last car he bought) were a couple thousand less in Florida than
in Raleigh and he was going back to buy one.
