I have a '95 civic ex and need to purchase a vtec solenoid valve. Im trying
to avoid the dealership as I think they will be too expensive. Thanks.

This is a good question because I've seen lot of comments from people saying
    that their VTEC doesn't work.
It seems like most people don't understand how the VTEC works and what to
expect as result and they expect some kind of super acceleration when the
    car gets over 5000 rpm.

  3. This is the first report of a failed solenoid (if that is what it is)
that I have seen. Easy test is full throttle acceleration to redline
in second gear. If it seems eager to go to and past redline, VTEC is
    functional.

I had a diagnostic done and a 22 came up. So its not the solenoid valve but
the pressure switch. I was wrong.

if you got CEL 22, check for loose wiring first, then check the oil level
    second.

Behind the VTEC solenoid is a gasket/screen, sometimes it get clogged and
    needs cleaning.

  6. Actually, it may still be the solenoid valve . At least that is a
possible outcome from the trouble-shooting flow chart for my '94
Integra. You need an oil pressure gauge and an adapter to determine.
You certainly want to follow the test procedure before buying any
expensive parts. It could be an electrical problem.
