Could anyone give me advice on which manual transmission oil to use for
my 2000 Accord 2.0 SE Exec. The guy at the dealers just quoted 10W-40
engine oil, "The same they use for the engine oil changes in the
    workshop"....

The service manual states Honda Manual Transmission Fluid (MTF), which
seems to be unavailable from the dealers.

  4. Amen!

Honda's MTF will work much better than straight engine oil. Since it
gets changed so rarely, the increased cost (~$6/qt) is pretty trivial in
the long run. The high end synthetic transmission fluids by Redline and
othters also get good user reviews, and may be even better than H-MTF.

Syn motor oils are not supposed to work very well. (AFAIK, the theory
is that they are _too_ slick, and that the synchro clutches don't work
    properly.)
