Why do all the ricers love the Honda Civic?

    The reason being, what you assume to be about $25K in modification is
    probably only $5K in modification. On the highway, if you're running a
    bloated automatic, any standard Civic (in good condition) will make your car
    seem slow in comparison.

    My son has modded his vehicle to a tasteful level. He's got the muffler,
    but it's a nice one (he used to have one of those stupid coffee can
    ones- the interior noise was unbearable.), new carbon fiber back lights,
    tinting, 17" wheels, new air intake, new grill, blue lights in the
    interior. He's got people of his generation drooling over it daily. It's
    black and anyone looking at it would have to admit how tastefully tight
    it looks.

    youd be amazed how many people will steal a car just for the 17" wheels,
    grill, and other doodads. the rest might be returned in one piece, or just
    burned on a side street in compton. because in so cal, if you have a ride
    thats blingbling, there are people out there who will want it more than you.

    so im sticking with the factory 14" steelies, +1 size decent rubber on 'em,
    some clean looking tint, and no external mods. 10 dics changer controlled by
    a cassette head unit, so hopefully if anyone looks in, they wont be as
    tempted by a stupid cassette player. ya never know, tho.

    We're about as far from Compton as you can be. If we lived in L.A., he
    wouldn't have this car.
    Tell me. The spinny wheels are enough to get you shot.
    In addition to his alarm (prolly useless), he's bought the auto lock.
    So your tint is clean looking? You mean you don't care for the bubbly
    look in tint jobs? ;)

    ||I'll try to answer your question. As the mother of a 17 year old who has
    ||a modified Civic, I can understand a portion of what you're saying. But
    ||I also understand the allure of modding the car.
    ||
    ||First of all, the Civic isn't a "junky ass car". The generation that
    ||likes to be modded is a really nice looking vehicle and accepts many of
    ||these mods well.
    ||The 2 door EX Coupe is *the best*, IMO reasonably priced vehicle for a
    ||young person to work on, making a personal statement with their car. It
    ||is also *the worst* for insurance rates.
    ||
    ||Many of the mods you are talking about are, IMO, a waste of money. But
    ||that's not the way the owner feels about it. There's a ton of love that
    ||goes into the work they do on these cars. If it keeps them focused and
    ||out of trouble, great. If it wraps them around a tree, not so great.
    ||
    ||If someone's putting $25K into a Honda, it's to show the vehicle. This
    ||has become a HUGE segment of the auto world-- aftermarket. The trouble
    ||comes from not knowing when to say "when". One thing leads to another
    ||and another....
    ||
    ||My son has modded his vehicle to a tasteful level. He's got the muffler,
    ||but it's a nice one (he used to have one of those stupid coffee can
    ||ones- the interior noise was unbearable.), new carbon fiber back lights,

    ||interior. He's got people of his generation drooling over it daily. It's
    ||black and anyone looking at it would have to admit how tastefully tight
    ||it looks.
    ||
    ||Now with that being said, back to the "overdone" look. Those huge fin
    ||spoilers have got to go. The body kits do not look good enough to
    ||justify how you have to drive. I think all in all, the Honda Civic is
    ||the perfect car for so many levels of modification. Like most things in
    ||life though, some people go a little overboard. But done well, a
    ||modified Civic is a beautiful thing.
    ||
    ||>Why not take the money and buy a nicer
    || >car like a Supra
    ||
    ||My son drools over those. It's few and far between spotting one of these
    ||on the road...And I live in SoCal! Which brings me to another reason the
    ||Civic is so popular for modding--pure numbers. It's much easier to find
    ||a used Civic than it is a Supra.

    Good post, Mom.
    I'm a 52 year old professional with way too many vehicles.
    One of these is a '90 CRX HF (the fuel economy special). It's 67 HP driving
    1995 lbs, and it's enjoyable to drive. The steering wheel feels like it's
    connected directly to the wheels, inputs result in immediate response.
    So now it needs an engine and transmission, and I will probably upgrade to a
    ZC or at leat an Si. And I'd probably go with coilovers, rear discs, and a
    wheel/tire upgrade too. I'll forgo the bodywork and wings, thank you :)

    ||Today I was on the highway, probably doing about 80 mph. One of these

    ||
    ||Ok, the guy's car is faster than mine. Big deal. What I don't

    ||and then put $25K or $30K of after-market parts on it. What's the

    Face it, you secretly wish you had some power under you hood so you could
    demonstrate your manhood. But you have neither, so you wussed out.
    I suggest you invest in a WRX or an Evo or even a Neon SRT-4 (sorry, no Honda
    equivalent) so you will see what the appeal is, and maybe reaffirm your manhood
    :)

    I'm thinking that guy who thinks that he can demonstrate his
    manhood with any kind of mechanical appliance 1. can be be
    easily replaced with a vibrator and probably has been and
    2. is an inappropriate cross-poster and we don't want him
    re-producing anyway and 3. isn't drinking enough is he's still
    sober enough to be driving around and/or demonstrating his
    manhood in any fashion whatsoever.

    Time to get the ducttape out.

    I considered getting a WRX Sti, but I just couldn't get past the
    huge wing on the rear. I like the smaller wing on the regular
    WRX and wish it was available as an option on the WRX Sti.

    I ended up buying a 2004 Ford F-150 4x4 Lariat instead and
    I am really happy with it.

    A useful deterrent is an alarm system. If you get one, adding a couple of remote
    actuator for the doors will enable the remote power lock, which is a very
    convenient upgrade. Also, replacing the speakers in the front doors (they're 6.5
    inches) is another upgrade that's worth while. I highly recommend upgrading the
    rims to 15 inch (and shoeing them with 195/50/15 tires). Too bad my light weight
    Konig Tuner is not for sales. They're all scraped up and got brake dust burnt
    into them. You can imagine what they look like after couple years of neglect.
    They still work as if new but a thief would have to be half blind if he thought
    he could get a decent amount of cash for them.

    Me too. I have a friend with a nice white one. First thing he did was remove the
    top half of the rear wing. Looks better, but still working on getting it right.
