Why do all the ricers love the Honda Civic?

  1. OK I am readingn this on an aircooled VW list, but even I know
that a WRX is an ALL wheel drive car and that the wing can be functional
at speed. Seems that there is only one dork here......

  2. Still a horribly overpowered supercrap plastic car, always has been,
    always will be. Sorry.

Let me clue you in. It is AWD, not FWD.

He even repeated his mistake. He should have known
he was wrong from the response he got.

I looked at the Evo VII when I was looking for vehicles and
it was taken off the list of vehicles as soon as I got a good
look at one. The WRX Sti looks like a well designed car and
the Evo looked too much like a family car with some
aftermarket parts added to it. I was surprised at the
difference when I got a close look at both cars.

Well everyone is entitled to their opinion I suppose. I'll admit the Evo
isn't the best looking car in the world, but I still think it looks better
than the Sti. The important thing is that the Evo is the better car to
drive, and if you like driving round corners fast you can't get many better
cars at any price. (although I might be tempted by a GT3)

  9. Now it's a Corvette - just a post or so back it was a Cobra. <shrug>No
matter - there's no way your going to keep up on a rally course anyway:
    horses for courses!

  10. Your knowledge of aerodynamics and when and where they come into play is
simply lacking. It would appear by your reckoning that all the
race-touring cars and rally cars are equipped with wings... just to uhh,
make consumers want them?? Move along please.;-)

  11. Hmm, that's hardly a valid comment. The Corvette is a helluva lot of car
for the $$ and it's well engineered - shame they dropped the LT5 direction
just when it looked like they were on the right track. Turning your nose
up at a Corvette reeks of auto-snob I'm afraid.

  12. Sure but even FWD cars can benefit from a rear wing under the right
circumstances - there's more to it than: "increase force over the driving
    wheels" as he insists.

The overpowered part is what makes you sick. I wouldn't
mind having 100 hp more than I already have. Maybe even
    another 200 hp.

I own the Corvette, but I don't own a Cobra or WRX Sti. I could
afford to buy them, but I don't want to pay out the extra money
for insurance for another car that won't be driven all that much.

We also get damaging hail storms here in Kansas City and I
only have a two vehicle garage. If I were to buy a 3rd vehicle,
something would have to be left outside in the weather.

Those were the deciding factors in trading in my 2000 Ford Ranger 4x4
on a 2004 F-150 4x4. Very small increase in my insurance and both
vehicles can be parked in my garage. A WRX Sti would have added
about $800 to my insurance per year and my Ranger would have
needed to be left out where it could get damaged.

It reeks of ignorance, not snobbery. The Corvette is a very well
designed performance car and anyone with any experience around
performance cars would already know this.

    Vince,

    1) While it's obvious you are biased against the Corvette, let me
remind you that you can not predict the future. Keep an open mind.

    2) There is no such thing as an "overpowered car"... underpowered,
    yes, overpowered, never.

No such thing as an overpowered car? How about one of those Craig
Breedlove types? Cannot think of a name right offhand, but one of those
cars used on the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah? Has a dyna-ram JET
engine and can go 650 mph plus? If you ever got one of those on the
freeway,I don't think you could stop in time and you definitely would
crash. That to me is a definition for an OVERPOWERED car.One that has to
much power and is difficult to control. An extreme example perhaps, but
    nevertheless overpowered.

  18. Based on *your* own biases.
Of course, none of us can.
How about driving a fuely dragster on ice?

My father in law's '64 Nova V8. That sucker was overpowered!

  19. E.g., a Corvette under far too many circumstances.
    Agreed

  20. Yeah those boy racer-mobiles are a killer on the insurance. You can almost
hear them say: "ah, here we have another sucker".:) They must rub their
hands in delight every time that damned WRX commercial comes on where the
two jerks are smugly pretending they know how to drive.
