You are entitled to your own opinion but not your own facts.
GM and Ford alone sell more vehicle in the US than all of the
foreign brands combined and that includes foreign owned
Chrysler. Better do some research on the CV thing, the NHTSA
says you are all wet on that one. ;)

Seems you want to compare a Taurus Wagon (SEL Premium), Automatic with a
    Accord Sedan Manual.
When you make a price comparison, make sure all models are comparably
    equipped.

I bought a Taurus SEL Deluxe 4 Door, Auto, Leather Bucket, CD, Rear Spoiler,
Power windows, seats, and locks $22,000.
Checked Accord and Camry with ** same equipment and style **, both were
    $24,000.

Boy, do I love that Taurus. Also got 1.9% financing.

Wait 2 years when the Taurus is worth less than $10k and the Accord/Camry
have double the values......or 80,000 miles when the Taurus tranny desides
to take a dump! (as is common with the Taurus) Over the long haul the Toyota
or Honda are far better cars (valuewise and reliabilitywise). The corporate
and rental fleets just water down the values of the bread and butter Big 3
automakers. If cost outlay is a consideration, then the Taurus can be had
for less, due to rebates and 0% financing.

I'm refering to the 'drive home' price not the list price. My
one son has a 2000 Accord V6 with 30K on the clock, that he was
planing to replace. He decided to keep the car for his daughter
after he found Honda dealers offering him 3 to 5 thousands LESS
than the NADA average trade for his Accord. He had numerous
brake problems with his car as well as tranny seal problem, so he
is aware that foreign cars have problems on occasion just like
other cars. Last month he bought a 2003 Sable. Why?
His wife's 2000 Sable company car with 40k on the clock has been
trouble free, so he decided to price a Sable. The 'drive home'
price for the Sable was $8,400 less for him to drive home
    than a V6 2003 Accord. He also priced a V6 2003 Camry V6. The
drive home price was $9,600 more than the Sable. I have
consistanly said, from what I see in our fleet service business,
every manufactur today is building good cars. The only real
differace I see is style and price. In my opinion one should
drive and price all those that meets their needs, then decide.
If you believe differntly it's your money, spend it where you
    wish.

Maybe in your opinion, but I don't see Accord or Camry holding up
much better than Taurus/Sable in the fleet service business and
the imports are much more expensive to repair when the do break
down. ALL cars can and do break down on occasion, that
is why they ALL have warranties.

  9. It doesn't particularly matter to me what the resale value is... I'm going to
keep it so long it won't make much difference. I kept my last Taurus 11 years.
When I sold it, it was still running strong on the original transmission. Since
it was garaged all that time, it still looked pretty good, too.

I owned one VW 1999 and that was the last I will ever own. The first
second and year I was impressed. Then the car started to fall apart,
the honeymoon was over. The repairs to a relatively new car did not
make any sense compared to any other car out there.

Several people that I know have had major problems with beetles,
jettas and golfs. My brother had to replace his transmission on his
2000 jetta, same with my co-worker. Do some research and you will
see that I'm not making this up.

Its really too bad because I still think that VW have cars with lots
of potential. Also oxygen sensors on these cars need to be replaced
often and they are very expensive.

Sorry, I hadn't realised that these people were cross-posting. The
sentiment is probably appropriate in the majority of cases, though? The
    noise level is outrageous.

GM is still the biggest, but Toyota recently overtook Ford, and is thus
    second-largest.

Only in your mind. In the US Ford sells more F series trucks
alone than Toyota sells total cars and trucks combined. The F150
sell by the hundreds of thousand more than Toyota sells Camry's.

I'm referring to corporate and government fleets, not rental car
companies. Most rental companies do not keep their vehicles more
than a year. Fleets generally keep their units
in service for five year or 300K, WOF.

11 yrs, one transmission on a Taurus... Wow, I'm imrpessed. I
managed to get 58k on mine.. The Taurus was a nice car, well priced,
    but just wasn't reliable.

I drive Toyota/Hondas these days. If Ford could make a car last as
long as my Japanese cars have, I'd buy it. They just don't.
