It doesn't in any car I have ever owned, up to and including the 2000 TL and
the 2002 Pathfinder. There are some who are saying it does on the newer
Hondas. The only way to know for sure would be to open the hood, start the
car, set the heater controls to that position, then look at the compressor
and see if the clutch plate is spinning.

I have a 2003 Accord and yes, the windshield and feet setting turns on the
    AC automatically.

    I use these window deflectors
    http://www.autoanything.com/deflectors/product.asp?prID=7 I keep the rear
windows cracked 1/4 inch seems to help with circulation.

To defog the windows, you need to lower the humidity of the air blown
across them. That's why the A/C comes on. You need to decide which
is more important, fogged windows, or a small hit in gas mileage.

  13. Yes, they have recirc. However, when I press the front defroster button, the
recirc turns off; I could manually turn it back on if I wanted/needed to.
The third button, economy, also goes off.

  16. That's what I thought...except with the Civic Hybrid, it's a significant hit
on MPG, as it disengages the "auto stop" feature (shuts off the engine at
traffic lights)...unless you're so skilled and inclined to turn the A/C off
as you're nearing every stop point.

I don't know if this applies to your cars, but .... The manual with my 2002
Pathfinder recommends changing the cabin air filter if the defroster loses
effectiveness in defogging the windows. If your cars are new enough to have
cabin air filters, when was the last time they were changed?

  20. Thanks for the idea. I've never changed them. One of the vehicles is old
enough for its filter to probably need changing. Someone else in one of the
groups suggested those items one puts on the top angled part of the front
windows, which allows one to slightly open the window without the rain
getting in (and I've always wondered what those were for...)
