I've never been raped in the ass by my Honda dealer.

In fact, my relationship with my dealer saved me $300 just a couple
weeks ago, when they waived the charge on a repair that shouldn't have
    been required.

This is only about the tenth time something like this has happened in
the last 20 years, so....you kids may do business the way you like, and
I'll do business the way I like, and I'll come out ahead. But you'd
rather throw a tantrum and yell "the dealer sucks!" every time you turn
    around; that's your prerogative.[/QUOTE]

My dealer is first-rate too. I guess there may some out here that are not
all that good, but I have not run into them yet.

Tell you what, Elmo, you are one LUCKY MOTHERF%$*ER if your
Honda dealer isn't a total scumbag.

Here in NYC, it just ain't so.

When my car had 16K on it, they told me that they HAD to replace
my brake pads, and that they HAD to charge me for x hours of labor.

I get 35K from OEM pads.

Head north. Friendly Honda in Pleaseant Valley and Morehead in Newburgh are
    fine to deal with.
Why they needed replacing at 16k is a mystery, but by the "book" they don't
have to do it for free. I agree that at 16k they should have done it as
good will, but they didn't have to.

Maybe. Or maybe I'm careful. I deal with ONE mechanic (used to be TWO,
but one of them left to work for Honda).

There are other mechanics at this same dealership who are, shall we say,
questionable. But while management lets them do their thing, management
takes care of ME. And my mechanic stands up for me as needed.

See, over at Paragon Honda in LIC, one cannot choose thier mechanic.

Face it, the service department is a cash cow for the dealer, and they
    have their own interests first.

    I wouldn't go there. I agree.

I can't imagine the small businessman who doesn't let the customer
    choose.

That's ALWAYS the case. It's just that at Paragon, obviously, they
don't know what their own interests are.

    Sure they do.

They are a high volume dealership, very close to Manhattan.

The business is a gold mine. The Service Manager always tells
people that they "have" to get EVERYTHING done there,
or else their warrant will be voided.

Shit, they charge FIFTY FOUR BUCKS (beacuse they "HAVE TO")
    to change the oil!!!!!!!

  11. no, idiots pay $54 to get the oil changed. The dealership simply
    charges the going rate.

The fat bastard service manager tells everyone that "if someone else
changes your oil, they MIGHT strip the drian bolt and then you have
to replace the pan, and that will cost you $800."

While there is a ring of truth to that, a good mechanic will use a
torque wrench instead of an air wrench, and of course.....
    CAVEAT EMPTOR.

    for a pan? right.
anyone who would use an air wrench to tighten a drain bolt is severely
retarded. to loosen? i guess i could see that. ive got a set of harbor
freight offset closed end wrenches that work great.

    OEM parts and Labor.

Thats what the fat bastard Service Manager told me. Scare tactics...SOP.

Plus he said that it would void the warranty on my car.

Hey....whats a Honda dealer in SoCal charge for a oil change?

How can that be? If people are willing to pay for it, then those same
people must think it has that value.

No one--NO one--is forcing ANYONE to go there for a $54 oil change.

If no one went, then they wouldn't have any business--and they'd lower
their price until they found the level that generated the business they
    need.

So no one is price gouging, because there are plenty of alternatives.
They don't own the market. Anyone who goes there, does so of his own
free will. He does so because he doesn't feel gouged.

Paragon is charging the going rate for the people that walk in the door.
If people stop walking in the door, they'll lower their rate.

But until that happens, they'll keep the rate up and maximize their
    profits--as any business will do.

  19. Make sure you windshield is clean. If it isn't, then the best wipers are
going to smear. Also, if your windshield has a lot of scratches, nothing
short of a new windshield is going to help.
