    Hello,
While getting my oil change from a local garage, it was recommended
that I get the transmission oil changed as well at 59700 miles.
    End result:

    $20 oil change
    $20 oil/ shop parts
$90 transmission oil filter ('from the Acura dealer")
    $110 labor

I suspect over charge here. Can someone tell me if the transmission
    oil/filter change is reasonable?
I called Jiffy lube and transmission flush was only $81. (w/o filter
    change)
I don't know if there is a transmission oil filter.
I will find out tomorrow if the tranny oil was flushed or drained.

    Thank you,

    Joyce

Hmmm, as far as I know, most Honda/Acura transmissions do not have a
serviceable transmission filter. I know this to be the case on my '03
    Accord.

Perhaps you should call the Acura dealer parts department to find out.

I would never take a late model Honda or Acura to anyplace which isn't a
specialist in the vehicles, either a dealer or and specialist
independent who works primarily on Acuras and Hondas. The days of
generalist mechanics being able to work competently on just about
anything are long over. Modern vehicles are complex and specialized.

For example, Honda uses an entirely different kind of automatic
transmission design than does just about anyone else. Honda also
requires a unique transmission fluid. Specialists should know this and
use the right stuff. General purpose garages either don't know or
believe fluid manufacturers who sell "all purpose" transmission fluids.

Bottom line, go to someone who knows what they are doing and who you
trust. Then you will not have to go ask stragers on usenet if you
    should be worried.

Thanks for the advice John. I am calling the dealer 2moro about the
    parts.

Transmission fluid change is no more complicated than an oil change.
Remove drain plug. Let fluid drain. Replace plug and add new washer. Fill
from dipstick hole in engine compartment. I can't speak for your tranny,
but there is no filter in my 03 Accord automatic tranmsmission.

Using the Honda recommended fluid might up the cost a bit, but I would
say that the labor charge at both places would be a bit on the high side.
More so at the Acura dealer, as they already had the car on the lift for
    your engine oil change.
