XR650L Problem

I have a 2005 Honda XR650L, which I just had a new exhaust system, carb.
kit, and K&N air filter installed. It ran fine when I got it back from the
mechanic. Now we got a cool spell and I noticed that the bike, after riding
for a while, dies whenever it stops to idle. I adjusted the idle and it went
back to doing the same thing after riding. I took it back to the mechanic
and he told me that this might happen with tempreture change and we adjusted
it and it was fine; for a little while. It has done this repeatedly and I am
wondering if the added vibration (from the work I had done) is causing the
idle screw to vibrate, thus moving it back a bit and making me have to adust
the idle again and again. I may be wrong in my diagnosis and the mechanic
won't be in for a couple of days, so I am wondering if there is a way to
tighten the screw up a bit. Or maybe this is not the cause at all. It does
idle fine after adjusting it but I am tiring of adjusting the damn thing
everytime I ride it. Any thoughts on this? Thanks.

  2. Loctite has worked well for me in similar situations. Worth a try, I'd say.

Thanks, I hadn't really thought of that. I don't know how that would work
should I want to re-adjust the idle in the future however.

  4. Works just fine, slightly more effort needed, that's all. Typically,
don't need to reapply after a screw adjustment. (Of course, don't use
the heaviest-duty loctite, just the usual type used for screws and
    bolts. It's readily removable.)

If you're running the dyno-jet kit, expect it to never be quite right.
Hot ticket is remove the snorkel, run 55/158 jets (maybe a touch richer
depending on the pipe), shim the stock needle up by 0.030 and drill the
vacuum holes in the slide to 5/32.

Thanks. I'm no mechanic but the one that put it in is fairly good, so I'll
pass this information on to him.
